FBC Pineville kids lend a hand at Main Street Baptist Mission

by Sarah James

The children at FBC Pineville learn what it means to be mission-minded.

On Wednesday, Nov. 18, the kids of First Baptist Church Pineville piled into church vans and traveled down the road to the Main Street Baptist Mission.

As an extension of FBC Pineville, the Main Street Baptist Mission's goal is to reach a different audience than FBC Pineville. Although the Mission has regular church services, they are not as formal as a typical church service.

The Mission runs vans to pick up adults and children for church. A free meal is provided every Wednesday night free clothing is available for people in need to rummage through.

This trip was part of the FBC children’s Mission Education classes. It was intended to give the children a hands-on experience that would go beyond what they could be taught in a classroom.

“We were able to get hands-on experience and knowledge about the mission behind the Mission” said children’s choir director Phillip Vincent, a Louisiana College senior and intern at FBC Pineville.

The FBC Royal Ambassadors and the Girls in Action, children in first through sixth grade, sang praise choruses for the church wide assembly. Next, the FBC kids split into smaller groups and went to different classes to observe and lend a hand. At the end of the evening, the kids then helped serve a meal to all of the guests.

“This trip helped the children see that missions takes place right here in their own backyard and that they can be a part of missions,” Vincent said.

The children were not only able to see what goes on at the Mission, but they left with a better understanding of missions that will enable them to relate to the stories and lessons they hear every week in class.
