Hark! The local choirs sing!

The people were gathered closely together, shielding each other from the crisp, cold Thursday night as they walked among the sights of Jesus’ birth. The stars twinkled brightly as the students and faculty of LC presented the events leading up to the birth of Christ, and it seemed that even the angels could be heard singing among the pines.

But wait! Those were no angels, but instead, the sweet voices of a few local choirs giving their renditions of many holiday classics and Christian hymns.

In keeping with tradition, LC invited local choirs to come to share their gifts with the public at Follow the Star. This year, only two churches and a quartet were able to respond to the call. Several children's choirs were scheduled to perform on Friday, but unfortunately were snowed out.

Philadelphia Baptist Church's Adult Choir was the first group to take the stage, nestled on the front steps of Alexandria Hall. Led by LC's own, Dr. Fred Guilbert, they sang lively and loud despite the cold weather.

The second group to perform was a local bluegrass quartet from Deville. They performed several Christmas hymns, accompanied by an acoustic guitarist and a fast-picking mandolin player.

“That mandolin sounded sweet!" said LC student, Justin Bailey. "They’re my favorite!”

Last to perform was the Fairview Baptist Church Adult Choir. They overcame some technical difficulties with their instrumental track, pressing on to perform without it for the last half of their performance.

The staff of Follow the Star was quick to extend a “thank you” to all who participated in the choirs for making this year’s program a success, and they invite the community to come out next year to take the tour and hear the choir performances.
