Lady Cats win another key game in ASC race

by Will Tubbs

Knock off Texas-Tyler to improve to 10-2

The Lady Cats cleared a major American Southwest Conference Eastern Division hurdle here Thursday night with a 78-59 win over Texas-Tyler.

LC (10-2, 8-2 in ASC), which currently sits at second in the ASC East a half-game back from Texas-Dallas, knocked off Texas-Tyler, the fourth-place team in the division just two days after defeating the third-place Mississippi.

The game was never really in doubt as the Lady Cats enjoyed a 42-30 lead at the break and built on that lead in the second half, outscoring Texas-Tyler 36-29.

Junior forward Tillisha Givens (Monroe, La./Ouachita Parish High) had one of her best outings of the year putting up a game-high 26 points, pulling down six rebounds, swiping four steals and dishing out an assist.
She was joined in double-figure scoring by three teammates. Junior guard Christy Pantallion (Alexandria, La./Bolton High) was good for 16 points, three assists, two steals and three rebounds. Freshman center Voneshia Williams (Alexandria, La./Bolton High) put up 14 points, six rebounds, one assist, two blocks and two steals. Freshman forward Natosha Gottlieb (Alexandria, La./Bolton High) came off the bench to contribute 10 points and six boards.

The Lady Cats will next venture out-of-conference and off-campus with a 6:30 p.m. Monday night showdown with Dillard University of New Orleans.

Here's coach Janice Joseph-Richard on the win:
