Lady Cats win at UT-Dallas, take over first place in ASC East

by LC Sports Information

Breaking: Game at Ozarks Saturday cancelled

RICHARDSON, Texas - The Louisiana College women’s basketball team took over the lead in the American Southwest Conference thanks to a 62-58 win over the University of Texas-Dallas on Thursday night.

The Lady Cats shot 49 percent from the floor to the Comets’ 40 percent, but trailed in every other offensive statistic - including rebounds, assists, and turnovers - save the most important stat of all, the final score.

The home team led by as many as fourteen in the first half of the game, but a late run by LC cut the deficit to seven points before the half, 33-26.

Christy Pantallion (Alexandria, La./Bolton High) put up 22 points and four assists for LC, which went on a 12-4 run to start the second half.

The run was also keyed by six points from junior post player Tillisha Givens (Monroe, La./Ouachita Parish High). Givens finished with 12 points in the contest, playing for the entire 40 minutes.

Fellow post player Voneshia Williams (Alexandria, La./Bolton High) had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Briana Lewis (West Monroe, La./ West Monroe High) 10 points and four steals to support the visitors, who continued to trade buckets with Texas-Dallas in a close second half.

Lauren Hale led the Comets with 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting and 2-for-5 from behind the three-point line. She also grabbed four of the 29 rebounds for UT Dallas, who was one better on the boards than Louisiana College. Tawni Ichimura added 11 points and five boards in the loss.

The Lady Cats and Comets both stand at 11-2 in ASC play, but with Louisiana College (which improved to 15-2 overall) now holding the tiebreaker, the team from Pineville now sits in first place in the ASC East.

With their game at the University of the Ozarks on Saturday cancelled due to weather, the next game for LC will be a rematch with UT Dallas next Thursday at H.O. West Field House.

BREAKING: CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - The Louisiana College men's and women's basketball teams are heading home after an announcement Friday morning that the team's scheduled doubleheader versus University of the Ozarks on Saturday had been canceled due to severe weather in Arkansas.
