by LC Sports Information

Now 32-2 for the season

Pineville, La. – Louisiana College used three homeruns over two games to take both ends of a doubleheader from the Choctaws of Mississippi College.

LC rebounded from their second loss of the season with victories of 6-0 and 11-1 (in five innings), and improved to 32-2 on the year, with a 16-2 record in the American Southwest Conference.

Rene’ Schwartzenburg pitched seven complete innings in game one and allowed only two hits while striking out seven batters as she improved her record to 19-1. Schwartzenburg, who did not walk a batter, pitched a perfect four and two-thirds innings before allowing a double that kicked up chalk along the left field line.

The Lady Wildcats were sparked by their leadoff hitter, right fielder Brittany Menard, who began the game by striking a triple to center field. Menard led off the third inning with another triple, en route to a 3-hit, 2-runs scored game.

Her teammates followed Menard’s example. Designated player Leslie Eastham smacked a two run home run in the first inning, and left fielder Allison Frye did the same in the bottom of the sixth. Jodi Montagnino and Ashleigh Clement added singles to knock in the other two runs.

Kim Mason pitched a complete game for Mississippi College, but took the loss after allowing four earned run on nine hits and one walk. Mason struck out five in dropping her record to 8-5.

The home team got off to a quick start in the second contest as well, jumping out to a five run lead after the first inning, and a 7-0 advantage after two. After Menard led off the game with a single, two walks and an RBI hit by pitch by Devan Greene loaded the bases for Aimee Dubroc, who blasted a grand slam over the wall in left field.

The homer was the second of the year for Dubroc, who had two hits on the day. Greene also hit safely twice, as Louisiana College scored runs in all four innings of play.

Louisiana College loaded the bases again in the third and fourth innings. chasing Choctaw starting pitcher Lindsey Morris after only two and a third innings pitched. Morris finished with an unimpressive line of eight earned runs allowed on six hits and five walks in taking the loss.

The Lady Wildcats added a run on a wild pitch in the third, and Brittany Menard finished off a productive day with an RBI single in the fourth.

Kelly Williams pitched four innings and allowed only one run on four hits while striking out four. Freshman Carli Wheeler pitched the fifth inning to close out the game for the Wildcats and for Williams, who improves to 7-1.

The Lady Wildcats return to action Saturday when ETBU comes to LC for a doubleheader that starts at 1 p.m.
