Lady Wildcats take the sting out of LeTourneau

by Al Quartemont

Hold Yellow Jackets to just 26 points in win

After surviving a second-half scare against ETBU Thursday, the LC Lady Wildcats made sure it wouldn't happen again Saturday as they got off to a quick start and simply rolled over LeTourneau 72-26.

LC, which closed within one game of clinching the American Southwest Conference Eastern Division, and thus, the right to host the conference tournament, improved to 15-2 in the conference, 19-2 overall. The Lady Wildcats, who are ranked number 21 in the latest D3hoops.com poll, can clinch that title with a win Tuesday night against Mississippi College in a game that will start at 5:30 p.m. at H.O. West Field House.

As for this game, LC raced out to a 13-2 lead, led 28-8 at the 10-minute mark, and 49-11 at the half behind a balanced scoring attack. Using her starters for the first four minutes of the second half, LC Coach Janice Joseph-Richard made sure the game was well in hand when she finally went to her bench players for the rest of the way - but by that time, LC led 59-11.

Tillisha Givens led LC with 14 points in just 20 minutes of play. Christy Pantallion and Voneshia Williams were the only two players also in double figures with 10 points each.

The Lady Cats dominated the game, shooting 49-percent from the floor, out-rebounding LeTourneau 36 to 23, and forcing the Lady Yellow Jackets into 35 turnovers. Making matters worse for LeTourneau, the Lady Yellow Jackets missed 13 of their 17 free throws, shooting just 23-percent from the line for the game.

The only player to hit double figures for LeTourneau was Laura Hahn who led her team with 10 points.
