Wildcats swept in playoffs at HSU

ABILENE, Texas - The Louisiana College baseball team's 2010 campaign came to a heartbreaking halt here Saturday as the Wildcats fell 5-4 to Hardin-Simmons to be eliminated from their best-of-three series with the Cowboys in the opening round of the American Southwest Conference Tournament.

LC, which wrapped the season with an 18-23 record, lost 13-3 Friday and, though it held a 4-2 lead in the eighth inning, could not hold of the No. 2 seed from the ASC West as Hardin-Simmons scored three runs in the second-to-last inning to notch the win.

Dustin Tubre (West Monroe, La./West Monroe High), one of 12 seniors on the Wildcats team, took the loss after giving up the go-ahead run in the eighth. He pitched two compete innings of relief of starter Grant Cox (Lake Charles, La./Sam Houston High) striking out two and walking three while allowing one hit.

Cox pitched seven complete innings and allowed four runs, three earned, and 10 hits while striking out a pair.

Offensively, the Wildcats were led by several seniors.

Senior second baseman Jonathan Ettinger (Vicksburg, Miss./Warren Central) went 2-for-4 with a run scored while senior shortstop Cole Bishop (Ruston, La./Ruston High) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and senior Chris Magee (West Monroe, La./West Monroe High) scored a pair of runs.

Junior third baseman Steven Davis (Monroe, La./Ouachita High) wen 2-for-3 with an RBI and freshman first baseman Mike Doughty (Crowley, La./Crowley High) went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
