Wildcats secure conference win over Condordia

PINEVILLE, La. - The Louisiana College men's basketball team got back to .500 on the year and reestablished a winning record in American Southwest Conference play with a thrilling, 85-82 win over Concordia (Texas).

The Wildcats (4-4, 3-2) never trailed in the game but also couldn't quite pulled away from the Tornadoes (3-3, 2-2 ASC) until junior post Korey Salmon (Deville, La./Buckeye HS) secured a last-second steal from Concordia's Tayler Jaobs to prevent an attempt at what would have been an overtime-forcing three-pointer.

Salmon, the reigning ASC East Player of the Week, posted his third straight double-double, with 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds, two blocks, four steals and two assists.

Junior point guard JeLani Mitchell (St. Martinville, La./St. Martinville HS) was the offensive star of the game, scoring a game-high 27 on the night, including hitting 12 of his 15 free-throw attempts.

On the night, LC shot 71.4 percent at the free-throw line, 66.7 in the first half and 76.5 in the second. The WIldcats were also solid from the field, making 57.1 percent of their shots.

Junior wing Jarrod Jackson (Albany, La./Albany HS) was good for 15 points and was a perfect 3-for-3 at the charity stripe while senior post Chukwuma Ekeh (Alexandria, La./Holy Savior Menard) put up 14 points for the home team.

Concordia was led by a quartet of men who reached double-figure scoring.

Jacobs led the way with 19 points and eight rebounds while Nick Haynes put up 17, Josh Johnson 15 and Collin Perkins 10.

The WIldcats will now get a full week off before returning to action at home against Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 16.
