LC men lose at Texas-Dallas, drop to 6th in ASC

by LC Sports Information

*Saturday game cancelled due to severe weather in Arkansas

RICHARDSON, Texas - The LC Wildcats played a respectable game and even had a player log an impressive double-double, but the American Southwest Conference East Division's top team, Texas-Dallas, was beyond spectacular in a 94-66 win over LC.

While Louisiana College shot 42.6 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from the three-point line and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe, the Comets (ranked No. 22 in the nation) were good for 56.1 percent from the field, 50 percent from the three-point line and shot free throws at an 88.2 percent clip to outscore the Wildcats 47-30 in the first half and 47-36 in the second.

With the loss, the Wildcats drop to 7-10 on the season and 5-8 in conference play, and perhaps more importantly, fall to sixth place in the ASC East and for the moment, out of playoff contention.

The loss also overshadowed the best performance of the year by sophomore post player Korey Salmon (Deville, La./Buckeye High). The 6-foot-9 Salmon put up a 28-point, 12-rebound double-double, but was the only Wildcat to reach double-figure scoring.

Sophomore guard JeLani Mitchell (St. Martinville, La./St. Martinville High) was the second-highest scorer for LC, putting up nine points and dishing out three assists.

The Comets, conversely, had little trouble finding offense, as four players reached double-figures in the game.

Chris Barnes led the charge for Texas-Dallas with 22 points while Jared Fleming and Curtis Davis added 16 points apiece and Scott Rodgers 14 in the win.

The Wildcats, who now rest in sixth place in the ASC East, will return to action this Saturday afternoon with a visit to seventh-place Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark.

BREAKING: CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - The Louisiana College men's and women's basketball teams are heading home after an announcement Friday morning that the team's scheduled doubleheader versus University o the Ozarks on Saturday had been canceled due to severe weather in Arkansas.
