LC President Aguillard calls “Star” a symbol to the community

Reflections on third annual event

Thursday, Dec. 3, marked the third annual Follow the Star event at Louisiana College.

The event began with the formal lighting of the campus under the order of LC President, Dr. Joe Aguilard.
Students and faculty gathered under the Louisiana College sign in the 50 degree weather to hear Dr. Aguillard speak about the event and what it means to him.

Dr. Aguillard said that “This year’s Follow the Star was an exemplary display of the dedication and passion for the mission of Louisiana College by our faculty, staff and students. “

Dr. Aguillard said the goal of Follow the Star is not to share a commercial Christmas about Santa Claus and elves, but to share a biblical and historical Christmas about Jesus Christ.

Follow the Star was a three-day event. On the first two nights, guests were taken on a tour to eight stations around campus which represented different scenes from the nativity story. On the last night, a special presentation in honor of veterans from past and present called “Christmas Letters from War.”

The option was given to the staff by Dr. Aguillard for the campus to take a break from the event this year, but he said they unanimously decided to carry on with the tradition.

Though cold and tiring, students, staff and faculty contributed their time and effort to put this event together for the community of Pineville.
Follow the Star has not only become a tradition at Louisiana College, but it is a symbol to the community of what the school stands for and wishes to accomplish - that Louisiana College is indeed a shining star.
