LC soccer teams off to slow start

Teams swept at Millsaps, Belhaven

Jackson, Mississippi has proven to not be a very friendly place for the Louisiana soccer teams. The LC men and women both dropped their opening games at Millsaps Wednesday and Belhaven Thursday.

Here is a look at the opening week results:

Thursday
Belhaven 8, LC men 0


JACKSON, Miss. - The Louisiana College soccer team, just two games into a six-game, season-opening road trip that will keep them away from home until Sept. 24, suffered a major setback Thursday night, falling 8-0 to Belhaven.

The Blazers were able to fire off 45 shots, 19 of which were on goal while LC was not able to place any shots on goal.

Freshman goalie Filip Linder (Umea, Sweden) was able to stop 11 of the 19 shots he faced.

LC's men will continue their marathon road trip next week with a jaunt to Conway, Ark., for matches against Hendrix (Sept. 10) and Central Baptist (Sept. 11).

Belhaven 5, LC women 0

The Lady Wildcats dropped to 0-2 on the young season here Thursday night after a 5-0 loss to the Belhaven Blazers in the last of a two-game, season-opening road trip.


Wednesday
Millsaps 3, LC men 0


The Wildcats suffered a game-one setback at Millsaps Wednesday night, falling 3-0 to the Majors.

The Wildcats managed just six shots on goal on the night compared to 17 by the Majors.

Freshman goalie Filip Linder (Umea, Sweden) was good for 14 saves on the night.

Millsaps 6, LC women 0

The Millsaps Majors handed the Louisiana College women's soccer team a 6-0 defeat in the Lady Wildcats' season opener Wednesday night.

The Lady Wildcats fell behind early, giving up five goals in the first half, but settled down and held the Majors to just one goal in the second.

Sophomore goalie Emily Breaux (Lafayette, La./Lafayette HS) faced 23 shots on the and managed to turn away 17.
