LC Softball opens season with DH sweep of Millsaps

by LC Sports Information

Solid hitting, solid pitching for Lady Cats

The Louisiana College softball team got off to a roaring start Saturday, sweeping a road doubleheader with Millsaps the 2010 opener for both teams.

The Lady Cats took game one, 7-2 and game two, 9-3.

Game one was scoreless through three innings with both team's pitcher silencing the opponent's bats.

Returning LC All-American Rene’ Schwartzenburg remained strong throughout game 1, striking out 12 on the day.

The Lady Wildcats, who broke things open in the fourth inning with four runs coming off four hits and two Millsaps errors to take a 4-0 lead, did eventually find a way to get at Millsaps starter Kasey Thibodeau..

LC added three runs in the seventh inning before the Majors finally got to Schwartzenburg in the bottom half of the inning scoring two runs on three hits.

In game 2, the Lady Cats scored two unearned runs to take an early lead but Millsaps would rebound and score three runs in the bottom of the second on a home run.

The Lady Wildcats quickly tied the score 3-3 when Aimee Dubroc doubled home Montagnino in the third and took a 6-3 lead in the fourth inning with two hits and another Major error.

LC brought in relief pitcher Carli Wheeler in the bottom of the fourth and she proceeded to shut down the Millsaps hitters allowing only one hit in her four innings of work as she recorded her first win of the season.

After adding three more insurance runs in the sixth inning, the Lady Wildcats cruised to the victory in game two of the doubleheader, 9-3 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

McAllister took the loss for the Majors pitching a complete game while allowing all nine runs –five earned – to go with 10 hits and eight walks.

LC's next action will be Saturday, Feb. 27 when the Lady Wildcats travel to Mary Hardin-Baylor for a doubleheader that starts at 11 a.m.
