Tony Merida challenges students to be “Faithful to the End”

Being faithful to the end.

That was the challenge Dr. Tony Merida laid before LC students at the March 4 Chapel Service.

"The Christian life is hard," Dr. Merida said. "It about perseverance - a long obedience in the same direction."

Dr. Merida, who grew up in Detroit, Mich., and later moved to Kentucky, attended the University of the Cumberlands. That's where a fellow baseball player became a personal witness to him and where Merida said he was led to Jesus Christ.

Merida later attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and now serves there as an Assistant Professor of Preaching. He also serves as the Teaching Pastor at Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, Miss.

In breaking down 2 Timothy, Chapter 2, Dr. Merida spoke on faithfulness - how the Christian is faithful through Christ, faithful to discipleship, faithful through hardship and faithful for the Glory of Christ.

"Here's the great lie of life," Dr. Merida said. "We are not sufficient. But Christ is sufficient.

"Paul's final word to Timothy is this - run. Don't ever stop running until the end. By His grace, keep running and one day, He will place a crown on your head and He will say to you, 'well done good and faithful servant.'"
