LC to face #2 ETBU Saturday

TYLER, Texas – It was the toughest outing of the year for the Lady Wildcats Thursday night at No. 5 Texas-Tyler. For the first time all year, the No. 1-ranked Louisiana College softball team lost multiple games, falling 4-3 and 7-3 to the Patriots.

The Lady Wildcats (34-4, 18-4 American Southwest Conference East) experienced an evening of bad fortune, beginning with a one-run loss in game one thanks to a walk-off RBI single by Texas-Tyler’s Joey Cronin and ending with a three-run loss in the second frame.

LC ace Rene’ Schwartzenburg (Marksville, La./Marksville High) suffered her second loss of the year in the first contest, falling to 20-2 on the year despite carrying a one-hitter into the bottom of the sixth. She finished with three strikeouts in 6.2 innings worth of work with five hits and four earned runs.

In game two it was junior Kelly Williams (West Monroe, La./St. Thomas More High) who suffered the loss, falling to 8-2 on the year after a three-strikeout, five-earned-run, 3.2 inning performance.
Tyler’s Kimber Bossom and M’Lynn Tillery were respective winning pitchers.

The Lady Wildcats’ offense was not terrible on the day, though only two players, senior left fielder Allison Frye (Pineville, La./Pineville High) and senior center fielder Jodi Montagnino (Baton Rouge, La./Christian Life), had a good showing in both contests.

Frye went 1-for-3 with an RBI in game one and 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in game two while Montagnino went 1-for-3 with a run scored in the first contest and 2-for-3 with two RBI in the second.

In game one, senior second baseman Ashleigh Clement (Oak Grove, La./Oak Grove High) was the top performer, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Freshman designated hitter Leslie Eastham (Baton Rouge, La./Woodlawn High) went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

In game two, the top performer was freshman right fielder Brittany Menard (Baton Rouge, La./Parkview), who went 3-for-4 with a run scored.

Louisiana College will take one day off before concluding its regular season Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. with a road doubleheader at East Texas Baptist University, currently the No. 2 team in the land.
